Sophie Von Helleman: Just recently I have been painting Star paintings of navigation. I was reading "Creation Lake" by Rachel Kushner and was excited by the idea that Cave Paintings were actually maps of stars to help people find their way. Before that I was painting mazes, so similar subject in a way - paintings can act as guide signs but also as labyrinths, so that's exciting. And then just today I was painting a mini-series of heroes with bloody faces because I was excited by a film still I saw of Barry Keoghan with blood on his face.
GB: What is your dream response from someone looking at a painting of yours?
SVH: I guess my dream response would be that they could look at my painting forever.
